Tasty Teas + Asha Tips!



One of my favorite aspects of the winter season is the warmth of tradition. The cozy feeling you get when you bundle up in a blanket and grab a cup of something warm, and maybe watch your favorite holiday movie, while snow gently falls outside. Here in Southern California, we might not get the snow, but we can brew up something warm to get us in a cozy mood.


One of my favorite warm beverages happens to be tea, and I love herbal teas, particularly because they typically don’t contain caffeine, making them a great “any time of day” drink. A quick google search though will teach you that herbal teas technically aren’t tea at all! Tea, which is prepared by pouring warm water over Camellia sinesis leaves, has been around for centuries and comes in a wide array of varieties and flavors. The term “herbal tea” is actually just referring to drinks made from infusions of fruit or leaves, or other parts of plants (other than Camellia sinesis).


Now that we cleared up that common misconception, let’s dive into some of my favorite herbal “teas” and some of their health benefits!


1. Chamomile Tea


Need some help catching some zzz’s? Need something to help you relax? Give Chamomile tea a try. While Chamomile tea has been used by many generations as a home remedy for a wide range of issues, scientific studies are also showing promising results in its effectiveness in managing certain illnesses, including reducing menstrual cramps and reducing inflammation. 2. Ginger Tea

Scientists aren’t exactly sure how it works, but experts believe that the compounds in ginger perform in a similar way to anti-nausea medications. 3. Peppermint Tea


My personal favorite—who doesn’t love the flavor of peppermint? Digestive issues? Try peppermint tea. Want to boost your metabolism? Peppermint Tea. Looking for a tea with antioxidant, anticancer, and antiviral properties? peppermint tea. We could write a whole blog on the benefits of Peppermint Tea, but we will just keep it simple. Peppermint tea is delish and can help with all kinds of minor health nuisances. If you need something to help with the headache you got from sitting on an all-day Zoom conference, try peppermint tea. 4. Lemon Balm Tea


If peppermint flavor isn’t your jam, don’t worry. Another tasty concoction with a list of health benefits is Lemon Balm Tea. This heavy hitter may improve heart and skin health, and can even aid in calming anxiety. If you had a particularly difficult social media exchange with grandma about social justice, try some of this tea to help ease your mind. 5. Echinacea Tea
